Insurance Claims

We are a specialty contractor that emphasizes in remediation and construction work related to insurance claims.  We are on approved insurance carrier and 3rd party administrator lists such as Farmers Insurance and Code Blue Claims.  The claims process can be very daunting for customer.  We simplify the process by helping customers through the process.  Calling Soma Builders will ensure that you have the best options, many times saving you as the policy holder the unneeded hassle of dealing directly with the insurance carrier.  No carrier is the same as another one which is why the process can be very difficult.  Many times the process for a specific carrier or 3rd party administrator can vary from claim to claim.  Reaching us first allows you to move forward quickly and get your property back to normal as fast as possible.  In general, the claims process is as follows:

1.  Contact Soma Builders first – whether it is water / floor, fire / smoke, mold, trauma, or wind damage, we can assist from the beginning all the way though the end from remediation to construction.  Our staff and technicians specialize in taking care of the claim quickly, correctly, and the way insurance carriers prefer.

2.  We conduct a site visit – at this point we inform you of your options.  Many times a claim amount can be under the policy deductible and we can start immediately.  Other times it can be above.  We can start immediately at this point as well.  We offer a clear, concise approximation of cost based on the scope of work.

3.  Homeowner signs authorization – once obtained we can start emergency and or reconstruction services.  Immediately.  Any deductible amount is collected as down payment for the work for a covered loss.  Sometimes Soma Builders will reach the insurance carrier to verify coverage, other times it is not needed if the damage is clearly a covered loss.

4.  Our office corresponds with the insurance carrier’s adjuster – sometimes the adjuster will want to see the job, other times they will just want pictures along with our official estimate.  Most insurance carriers require an estimate in an estimating software called Xactimate that has unit pricing updated monthly.  We provide that to them within the timeframe they request.  The insurance carrier usually sends out a check at this point for the estimated amount of the damages.

5.  We finish the work –  once completed we send a certificate of completion to the insurance carrier and if applicable the carrier cuts a check for the recoverable depreciation.

6.  If applicable we submit a supplement to the insurance carrier for reimbursement – one advantage of using our services is that if there are any items that were missed in the adjuster’s or our estimate that we can submit the additional cost to the carrier for further payment, using the channels they prefer.  The carrier will at this point cut another check for the supplement amount.  Sometimes it is impossible to foresee additional costs until remediation or construction starts.
